Whoever you are, wherever you are on your journey, we give you the welcome of Christ.
If you’ve never worshiped with us before, you might find a few of the movements, gestures, and recitations confusing. Never fear! The bulletin will inform you when to stand, when to sit, and when to kneel as you are able. Keep in mind that these practices are suggestions, not requirements, for tapping into the divine and deepening your faith practice. However you worship is the appropriate way to engage.
Worship at St. Francis on the Hill is informed by the Book of Common Prayer and follows the liturgical cycle. Priests and Lay Ministers work in tandem during the service to offer Scripture readings and to administer the sacrament of Communion. Supported by our choir and accompanied by organ and piano, we sing primarily from the 1982 Hymnal, but we invite all manner of musical worship. The service can be divided into two main parts - the Word, wherein we hear scripture readings, prayers, and hymns, and the Eucharist, a weekly celebration of Communion. All are welcome to receive Communion, or if they’d prefer, to receive a blessing at the altar rail.
“We’re following Jesus into loving, liberating and life-giving relationship with God, with each other and with the earth.”
The Episcopal Church sees stewardship as more than simply contributing money to the church; it’s also about contributing time and talents, and volunteering for ministry and mission. It’s about reaching out to build relationships from a perspective of abundance instead of scarcity.
We receive with gratitude both pledges and gifts in any amount. Thank you for contributing to the mission of St. Francis on the Hill. May our combined efforts work to bring forth justice, peace, and comfort.
